Shelter in Place: Day 38

Today I signed a lease and made a quiche, so I think I’m officially an adult.

In other news, we hopped right over spring here in Oakland and moved directly into summer. It’s so hot the cat has become permanently horizontal.

On the plus side, I woke up at 5:00AM after sleeping through the whole night with only some strange “Wuthering Heights” infected dreams. Something about Mr. Lockwood actually being a woman and only dressing as a man so she could infiltrate Heathcliff’s home. It was pretty interesting if I’m being honest.

Otherwise I’m continuing to plan my move and pack and preparing to leave California. It seems highly unlikely at this point that I’ll be able to say good-bye to people in-person, so I’ll have to have some sort of virtual farewell party.

I’m still trying to stay in the excited zone and out of the panic zone about the move. It is a pendulum, depends mostly on the time of day and how much food and water is in my system.

I’ll be okay.

Today I watched the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – the BBC television series. I really like it except for Trillian’s outfit. I mean… really??? Arthur gets to run around in his bathrobe and slippers and Trillian who is an esteemed mathematician and physicist somehow has to be in a low-cut leotard 24/7? I guess it was the 80s.

Sometimes I am reminded that for as much work as still needs to be done, I’m grateful for the advances that have been made.

I suppose that is all for today.

I’ll be back again tomorrow.
