Shelter in Place: Day 31

Well, by my calculations, I have been in shelter-in-place for officially one month. It feels like much longer.

Based on rumblings in the local media, there might be some loosening of the strictures by May, but I’m not making any concrete plans. I am looking at a possible class schedule and searching for housing, though!

As anyone who knows me can tell you, I have a lot of drive and not a lot of patience.

Despite all the planning and errand running I have already started to do, I am also attempting to hold onto the joy I felt when I was officially accepted. It was a really special moment in my life. My brain doesn’t often let me hold onto happiness for very long. Probably something about an overactive amygdala or what have you. So I have to consciously cultivate feelings of pride and joy.

And I do feel pride and joy.

I have worked very hard for a very long time to become who I am today. I plan on continuing to work very hard for the rest of my life, however long that may be. I am excited to go to grad school because it will provide me with greater access to resources and the ability to make hopefully useful connections. I’m also looking forward to having time and energy to devote to writing and teaching.

Additionally, I’d like to take this time to ask if people have any books or resources that they found useful in their TA-ing adventures. It has been a while since I was in a formal classroom setting, and I know I have a lot of friends and family who know a thing or two about education.

I think that’s all for today. I’m trying to cut back on the screen time.

Sending much love from Scout and me,
